I believe there are just as many unique ways of being in this world as there are people who inhabit it.
This conviction has led me to build a practice that explores our essential human capacity to forge imaginative pathways for desire, even in the midst of great suffering.
Whether in the consulting room or on the page, language is our most generative medium, both the material and the mechanism of our reality.

My name is Anaís. I am a licensed psychoanalyst and scholar from the border city of Tijuana, Mexico. I am also pursuing my doctorate in Comparative Literature at Princeton University and am a student member of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis in New York City.
My research focuses on clinical psychoanalysis as a language-oriented practice, on North American subjectivity post-NAFTA, and on the poetics of the self. I also write and speak on art, literature, and psychoanalysis, and on critical race theory, gender studies, and cultural and familial intersubjectivity.

Psychoanalysis is one of the few remaining treatments that adapts to each patient’s individuality rather than making the patient adapt to any preconceived standard of normalcy. It is by letting your unique psychological landscape express itself more fully that we can explore another side of anxiety, suffering, and pain and arrive in unexpected territory.
I would encourage you to try psychotherapy if you are facing depression, anxiety, trauma, or loss, or if you are exploring questions of identity, sexuality, relationships, or family life.
Our first meetings are free of charge, which gives us time to see whether working together is right for you. I believe in being transparent about my fee, and I offer a sliding scale. I work with each person’s financial situation, and with their insurance, to find a fee that works for both of us. I am an out-of-network provider and can give you the statements you need to seek reimbursement.
